[Places] Fajã & Miradouro of Cabo Girão
Almost every fajã (a fajã is a small portion of land that goes into the sea) in Madeira is used to produce and grow cultures of some kind.
A famous one near Câmara de Lobos is Fajã of Cabo Girão! Fajã of Cabo Girão is one of the most beautiful fajãs in the island. You can get there by taking a ride in a cable car, and although the views are amazing, it is not advised if you’re afraid of heights.
In addition, at Miradouro of Cabo Girão, and as you can see from the photos were showing below, you get one of the best Atlantic Ocean’s sightseeing experience ever in Madeira Island!
The reason Fajãs are used as cultivation ground are mostly because most of them are very fertile soils, due to the volcanic composition of the Madeira soils. Almost anything grows in there! Also, the fajãs benefit from perfect weather conditions because of their location, which makes them perfect to agriculture.
Fajãs also allow an opportunity for a special experience. Some of them are used for rural tourism, where you can spend a night at a traditional Madeira House. The rural tourism experience is also one of the best experiences you can ever get. We promise you hadn’t probably ever experienced something like it before! So, to every visitor coming to Madeira Island, we really encourage to spend at least a couple of nights in this magic and one of a kind environment.
